Healthy Cleaning for the Bathroom…

I know many people talk about spring cleaning around the house but the Bathroom is one of the places that needs weekly TLC if not daily especially if you have boys!  As you know I run a daycare with lots of littles using the bathroom all day long I find myself cleaning daily each evening the toilet and the floor around it. I felt over exposed to bleach and other harsh chemicals everyday so my health was in jeopardy due to over exposure to those harsh chemicals. I found some great natural and healthier alternatives to help me be healthy as I clean.

Seeing as the bathroom is usually the smallest and most closed off space in the house it is very important to clean it without a cloud of chemicals you are breathing in and exposing to your skin leading to them getting into your blood stream.  If you need gloves and a mask to clean I would say you need to rethink your approach. Not only are the following recipes for cleaners healthier for you but they are also great for your mood and smell amazing.

This first cleaner is great for the tub, tiles and shower doors not only does it cut thru the soap scum but it can also help with mold and bacteria with the assistance of Tea Tree or Lemon Essential oil. I have had to use this application more than once but it does work wonders at breaking down the grime in the shower even on the shower head. Use a green scrubby and a little elbow grease to get it super clean.

Tub & Tile Cleaner

¾ Cup Baking Soda

¼ Cup Liquid Castile soap (unscented)

1 Tbsp water

1 Tbsp Vinegar

10 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

5 Drops Lemon Essential Oil

Mix all ingredients in a small bowl and transfer to a PET plastic or glass jar with a lid. Spread liberally around tub on tiles and shower door and head if needed let sit 5-10 minutes or longer for heavy mold or stains. Scrub clean and rinse with warm water using a washcloth or sponge to loosen up any leftover cleaner. Repeat if needed.

The Toilet is something NOBODY wants to do but has to get done. I first use my all purpose cleaner around the rim, lid, the outside of the bowl and on the floor around it (check out my store to purchase some http://www.hopefaithhealthblog.com/417934863/product/1376999/all-purpose-cleaner?catid=408412 ) But for the inside I use a toilet brush and this next recipe to help kill the major germs and bacteria that can linger in the bowl of the toilet. It cleans it very well.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

½ Cup Baking soda

¼ Cup Vinegar

10 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

5 Drops Lemon Essential Oil

Mix all ingredients in the bowl and let sit for a minute or two. Use a toilet brush to clean under the rim and scrub the solution around the bowl then flush. This is to be used right away and not stored in a jar due to the mixture is for a one time use not multiple cleanings.
